Our groups introduce themselves
Here we introduce the talented groups who, with passion and creativity, designed our life-sized figures with artistic guidance from Monika Bradl. These impressive works are the result of dedicated communities, including the altar servers of Hofkirche Parish, the Diakonie Day Center, and the Ostendorfer Gymnasium. We would particularly like to highlight the cooperation between Regens Wagner and the School Pastoral Care at Mittelschule Weinbergerstraße. Together, they designed 3 figures. This encounter and collaboration have created a new space that is intended to be filled with joint projects in the future, entirely in the spirit of “approaching each other.”
Through teamwork and a lot of heart and soul from young and old, people with and without disabilities, or simply put, people like you and me, a total of 13 outstanding and unique figures have been created. These are as individual and special as the people who designed them.

The working group is an association of institutions that support people with disabilities.

Together with its cooperation partners, the working group offers advice, leisure activities, and daily support. It advocates for people with disabilities to participate equally in society. It also informs the public and works together to improve services for people with disabilities and their relatives.
The Kreisjugendring (KJR) is an important cooperation partner. It contributes ideas, commitment, and new opportunities to joint projects. It is important to them that children and young people with and without disabilities can experience and create things together.
For the project “Neumarkt kommt an”, the Working Group for Open Disability Work (OBA) Neumarkt was a cooperation partner of the KJR and the Kunstkreis Jura. Together, the idea of designing a wooden figure based on a photo was implemented. This made it visible how people with and without disabilities can be active together and be part of a community.
The collaboration shows how important strong partners are. Everyone contributes their own experiences and skills. This creates new ideas together for more participation, encounter, and cohesion in our city.
Our group consists of committed young people aged 15 to 25 who want to show that community and equality are lived in Neumarkt. With our firefighter, we wanted to represent courage, helpfulness, and the fulfillment of childhood dreams. She stands for everyone who goes their own way – regardless of gender roles. During the design process, the importance of cohesion and mutual respect became clear. Because: Arriving means moving something together.
The figure was created as part of the BVB youth measure of bfz Neumarkt, an institution that offers young people orientation and perspectives. The bfz stands for education, integration, and career opportunities. In addition to nursing training and language courses, professional development plays a central role. Here, participants can acquire new skills, complete retraining, and qualify for various industries. Another important area is the preparation for career orientation, which helps young people enter professional life. The offerings are supplemented by rehabilitation measures that support people in returning to work after illness or accident.
The work of the bfz is based on clear guiding principles: individual support and guidance, practical and innovative training, respect and appreciation in interaction, and the development of professional and social competencies. With responsibility for the region and a high standard of quality, the bfz helps people seize their opportunities and achieve things together.

#19 – G6 – House for Youth, Education and Culture
Youth work is diversity!
The G6, as a house for youth, education, and culture, is part of the social infrastructure of our city of Neumarkt.
The measures and projects aim at self-reliant youth who contribute positively to the development of a vibrant community. Successful youth work is always a beneficial location factor for the municipality.
The Social Affairs department, with the community center, the community center in Pölling, and the specialized areas of family, intergenerational, civic engagement, integration, and political education, offers spaces for encounter for all people.
The team consists of 9 employees who work together in various social fields, bringing their diverse ideas, skills, and strengths, as well as weaknesses. Every team member wants to be taken seriously, recognized, and feel valued as a member of the team.
In our houses and our projects, we create a culture of enablement. We support social dialogue, solidarity, the inclusion of people with disabilities, civic engagement, and respectful coexistence. All people should be able to participate in municipal life in the sense of equal opportunities. For this, we offer low-threshold services in our houses and beyond.

#17 – Open Meeting Point for People with Early-Onset Dementia – Caritas Social Station
Our open meeting point “Staying in Touch” at the Caritas Social Station aims to provide a contact point for people who develop dementia at a young age and their relatives, to exchange experiences and engage in joint activities.
Existing care services generally do not meet the needs of younger people with dementia, which is why there is a separate group for younger affected individuals. After all, there is a greater need for movement, and younger people are interested in different topics and are at a different stage in their lives than people who are twenty to thirty years older.
The main goal of the care center is therefore to improve the care of young people with dementia and their relatives. The group at the Caritas Social Station achieves this, for example, through
• Exchange with other affected individuals,
• Support for the desire for autonomy, co-determination, and participation,
• Strengthening self-esteem, and
• Rediscovering joys and passions.

For the second time, the KRS gathered in the familiar circle of all participants of “Neumarkt kommt an.” After making our debut last year with our three figures – the footballer, the punk, and the street musician – we are happy to be back this year with the “Influencer.” This was designed last year by a fifth-grade student, who also participated in the colorful design this year in sixth-grade art class.
The State Realschule for Boys Neumarkt is a large school community that is involved in many ways:
There are research groups as an example for the MINT area, or cooperations in music or theater with the neighboring girls’ Realschule.
We also work with regional companies and institutions to gain insights into various professional worlds. In doing so, we produce handcrafted structures in the school area as well as in public spaces.
Our sports events also offer space for encounters and fairness. And we also open ourselves digitally to new ways and possibilities of teaching and learning.
Whatever there is to discover – the boys of KRS Neumarkt always approach things with an open mind!

The Day Center of Diakonie NAH e.V. is a meeting point for people living with a psychological illness. It offers a way to give structure and content to their days.
The Day Center offers contact opportunities, a chance for lunch, hobby and leisure activities, and non-binding work and employment opportunities with varying levels of demand. Activities take place in groups and with professional support. A varied program is designed every month.
Our goal is to provide stability, support in daily life, and enable a good time.
Within our painting group, the figure Franzi was created over several months. Under the project management of Alexander Liebsch (Dipl. Social Pedagogist), seven participants designed the wooden figure in various creative process phases.
Ms. Claudia Deml, for example, painted Franzi’s sad and depressive side with loving detail, and Mr. Rolf Sohler-Zinner painted the cheerful side. Mr. Martin Straubmeier and Ms. Maria Pesavento were responsible for the large-area wood impregnation and priming work.
Ms. Gerlinde Pfeiffer, Ms. Gabriela Schuster, and others were involved in the theoretical background and for Franzi’s accessories.
The creation of Franzi brought great joy to everyone – especially because she symbolically represents people with psychological illnesses and is now also visible in Residenzplatz as part of society.

#13 – Advisory Board for People with Disabilities
An advisory board for people with disabilities has a particularly important task: it is the voice of a city for accessibility, for true participation, and for the rights of people with disabilities.
It works to remove barriers – be they structural, linguistic, or social – so that all people can move freely, learn, work, and live. Accessibility here means not only ramps and elevators, but also openness, understanding, and access to all areas of life.
The advisory board fights to ensure that participation does not remain just a word on paper, but becomes a reality: that people with disabilities are involved in decisions, their experiences and wishes are heard, and they can participate equally in shaping society.
Thus, the advisory board becomes a driving force for change – so that our society truly becomes inclusive, where every person, regardless of disability, has the chance to lead a self-determined, dignified, and fulfilling life.
Pflege&Du (Care&You) consists of the welfare associations of the Neumarkt district and the bfz Vocational School for Nursing. The common goal is to show that nursing is not only a very valuable but also an interesting and desirable profession. Experience shows that a large proportion of nurses chose the profession because of an internship.
The association and the Pflege&DU website make it easy for interested parties to apply for an internship or a training position and to learn about this great profession.

#11 – Theo-Betz Elementary School
The Theo-Betz Elementary School is a colorful school community whose goal is to learn well together and grow together.
Children from many European countries attend the school, hence the colorful logo. Many cultures meet here, creating a vibrant whole. It is important to us to always get along well, and to treat each other with mindfulness and respect. Together we try to be strong and support each other.
We are female students from the vocational integration classes at the Vocational School Center in Neumarkt. We all arrived in Neumarkt only months ago. The topic of “Arriving in Neumarkt” concerns us very directly. In our classes, students from three continents learn together. Although we come from different cultural backgrounds, we find ways of respectful interaction. We also tried to express this with our figures:
Each of us had to experience various things on our journey to Germany, some of which were traumatic.
Upon arriving in Neumarkt, a different, new life awaited us. At the Vocational School Center, we are allowed to learn German, mathematics, and life skills in special classes. We learn a lot about the political system and society in Germany and discuss ethical values in an intercultural comparison with our home countries. It is not always easy to understand all of this, but our teachers and our social worker from the cooperation partner BFZ support us with great commitment. Within two years, we learn the German language up to B1 level. With a successful secondary school diploma, we are hopefully well prepared for the subsequent start of vocational training.
The project was a lot of fun for us.

The State Realschule for Boys Neumarkt is a large school community that is involved in many ways:
Be it research groups as an example for the MINT area, or cooperations in music, theater, or school crossing guards with the neighboring girls’ Realschule. There is also frequent cooperation with regional companies for handcrafted structures in the school area as well as in public spaces. Of course, there are also various sports events that create space for encounters. The boys of KRS Neumarkt always approach things with an open mind!
I am Elena, 23 years old, and currently in my second year of apprenticeship as a carpenter.
As a former student of the vocational school, I was introduced to this project last year by my teacher Mr. Sammer and was immediately enthusiastic. I have long been committed to feminism and the equality of all genders.
It is important to me to live in a world where everyone, regardless of gender, origin, or other attributions, has the same opportunities and rights.
That’s why I want to share my thoughts and ideas with you here and work together for a more just society.

#7 – Regens Wagner
Since 2018, Regens Wagner Lauterhofen has been offering residential services specifically for people with traumatic brain injuries in Dr.-Schrauth-Straße in Neumarkt.
The house has 24 residential places with twelve single and six double apartments. With the integrated support facility, a modern and centrally located, barrier-free living space has been created in the city center of Neumarkt.
Many double apartments are equipped with a kitchen-diner, and most single apartments have a small kitchenette for preparing small meals. The others are also prepared with the appropriate connections and can be easily retrofitted. All residents have barrier-free access to their own wet room in their individual living area. Modernly, every resident also has the option of connecting a telephone, television, and internet.
School Pastoral Care at Mittelschule Weinberger Straße in Neumarkt
Learning to live together is the motto of our school. School Pastoral Care, as a service of the church to people in the school environment, aims to help ensure that learning to live together in our school is increasingly successful.
Therefore, projects are initiated and supported,
- that strengthen community,
- that encourage people to go their own way,
- that create connection and solidarity.
With the participation of two students in the city of Neumarkt’s project “Neumarkt kommt an,” “learning to live together” became a concrete experience!

#5 – Ostendorfer Gymnasium
The Ostendorfer Gymnasium is a recognized UNESCO project and European school, which as such advocates for education with a focus on human rights and peace, global citizenship, world heritage, and intercultural learning.
A 9th-grade class, together with their art teacher Nicola Thumann, dedicated themselves last summer to the theme of “Arrival.” After careful consideration, the students found the soldier to be a fitting nativity figure, as he is not always viewed without prejudice in society. Nevertheless, he also has a place in society and community, just as the diverse students at the Gymnasium do.
Intercultural learning from one another is important, both on a small and large scale. This can reduce prejudices and promote a more open interaction with each other.
My name is Rita Großhauser, I have lived very happily with my family in our wonderful Neumarkt since 1982. From the beginning, I have instilled tolerance and charity in my 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
In 2020, I was elected to the city council for the UPW. Here, I was then given the great task of Integration Officer.
Through my work on the city council, I have learned to look even more intensely through multicultural glasses. Here I was able to recognize the value that our colorful mix of different nations can bring. In cultural and human differences, I recognize the essential. My insight was sharpened by the high degree of trust and social cohesion in this intercultural city.
A peaceful, respectful, and open interaction with and among each other is the basis of every form of life. I experience this more and more often in the various committees in which I participate.
Social acceptance can only be achieved through common discussions, meetings, and events.
I have learned to be more mindful of my counterpart, to consider what life they have led so far, and how they feel and what they think.
This joint and great project “Neumarkt kommt an” was initiated by me. It shows to a high degree how intercultural Neumarkt is. I am grateful to be a part of the campaign and am very proud of all of us and this special achievement.

#3 – Hofkirche
The Hofkirche Neumarkt is one of the two large parishes in Neumarkt. It is the contact point when baptismal or godparent certificates are needed, when people want to get married in church, or for burials.
Many people actively participate in parish life. For example, the parish festival is organized, as are many other Christian events and various lectures, church services are festively designed, and especially the training of altar servers is promoted. In group sessions, they are prepared for service at church services, developing a sense of community connected by faith. Lively friendships often emerge that last a lifetime.

Within our acrylic painting group, the wooden figure ‘Holzmichl’ was created over several months. Under the project management of Alexander Liebsch (Dipl. Social Pedagogist), 8 visitors designed the wooden figure in various creative process phases.
Ms. Claudia Deml, for example, painted Michl’s sad and depressive side with loving detail, and Mr. Rolf Sohler-Zinner painted the smiling side.
Michl holds a health sphere in his hand. This was designed in another art project and won 1st place at ‘Kunst auf Bayerns Burgen’ in Burglengenfeld. Mr. Erwin Meier, Mr. Gerhard Betz, Ms. Hildegard Danneberg, and others were responsible for the large-area wood priming work, and Ms. Petra Meisl and Ms. Natalia Plischke painted the stones with the depressive symptoms.
Everyone greatly enjoyed creating the Holzmichl. Especially that Michl symbolically represents people with psychological illnesses and is now also present at Residenzplatz as part of society.

#1 JURA-Werkstätten Neumarkt
At JURA-Werkstätten Neumarkt gemeinnützige GmbH, people are at the center. As a workshop for people with disabilities, it offers a wide range of work opportunities tailored to the needs of people with varying degrees of impairment. For example, in the creative area of JURA-Werkstätten Neumarkt: an inspiring space where creative talents can unfold.
The diverse offerings range from visual arts to handicrafts. All employees have the opportunity to implement their own ideas and learn new techniques. The creative area thus not only promotes personal development but also the self-confidence of the employees.
Through collaboration in creative teams, impressive, expressive works are created, along with a strong sense of community and joy in artistic creation. This is evident: the products of the creative area often find their way into smaller markets or exhibitions, which also gives employees the chance to present their work to a wider audience. Thus, creativity becomes a bridge for social participation and integration.
